Mazda has upgraded and added some features to the 2017 Mazda3 without raising the sticker price, unless you choose additional options. Compared to the competition, the Mazda3 is toward the high end, with only the Toyota Corolla ahead of it. It starts at $18,680, the same price as last year’s model, and the Corolla starts at $19,365**. The Mazda3 hatchback’s base sticker price is $550 higher than last year, however.
New Features for the 2017 Mazda3
Some of the new features on the Mazda3 for 2017 include the i-ActiveSense safety suite and the Premium Package, increased insulation for a quieter ride, a more luxurious interior, and Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control technology. The G-Vectoring Control matches driver inputs to the engine for improved handling.
The Sport and Touring trims will come with a 2-liter engine, while the Grand Touring will be powered by the 2.5-liter engine. Choose between a manual or an automatic transmission. Other new features are power mirrors, push-button start, a remote keyless entry system, and an electronic parking brake.
Extras for the Sport
Available only on the sedan, the Preferred Equipment Package adds cloth sport seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers, satin interior trim, rear cross-traffic alert, 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, blind spot monitoring, and heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals. The package adds $1,000 to the sticker price.
Extras for the Touring
Choosing this Preferred Equipment Package on the Touring trim bumps you up to 18-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, heated leatherette front seats, advanced keyless entry, and auto emergency braking.
You can have a rear decklid spoiler, a premium Bose stereo system, shark-fin antenna, and a power moonroof when you opt for the Popular Equipment Package for $1,500.
The hatchback version of the Touring trim boosts engine power up to the 2.5-liter engine with 184 horsepower.
Grand Touring
The Grand Touring trims give even more extras, such as LED fog lights, black metallic trim on the grille, and leather seats in your choice of almond or black. The exclusive Premium Equipment Package, costing $1,600, adds paddle shifters with the automatic transmission, LED daytime running lights and taillights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and navigation technology.
i-ActiveSense
For another $1,100, you can upgrade to the i-ActiveSense safety suite that gives such features as adaptive cruise control lane departure warning, adaptive high beams, lane keep assist, and a new traffic sign recognition system.
